A fatal semitruck accident happened in Pleasant Grove last Sunday. A 21-year-old driver did not survive the collision and a passenger in his vehicle required hospitalization.

The accident happened a little after 12:30 p.m. Just before the collision, the 21-year-old driver was operating a Chevy Impala. He stopped at a two-way stop, and then drove into the intersection at the same time that a 22-wheel semitruck entered the intersection. Although the 63-year-old driver of the semi tried to stop, he was traveling too fast and couldn’t avoid the collision. The semitruck drove into the side of the Impala.

The force of the collision was so strong that the Impala flipped over. Although the California Highway Patrol responded quickly, they were unable to save the driver, who they found dead at the accident site. The passenger, a 22-year-old woman, was lucky to survive, but not without major injuries that required hospital care. Both the driver and the passenger were wearing seat belts.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the incident to determine who was at fault and to rule out drugs and alcohol as the cause. The question of whether the semitruck driver was at fault for this collision will affect whether the injured 22-year-old woman — and the family of the deceased driver — can seek money to pay for damages stemming from the crash.
