When navigating a roadway in California, the painted line that runs down the center of the street is intended to guide motorists so that they easily remain in their own lanes. However, when one vehicle ends up crossing the center lane, the result can be a deadly car accident. This situation may easily stem from a motorist who is driving while distracted.

An accident involving the younger brother of actress Salma Hayek recently occurred in California. In this situation, the 40-year-old man, named Sami, was driving east. He reportedly lost control of the automobile and collided with a pickup truck traveling west. The incident took place on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Sami’s front-seat passenger suffered severe injuries, and he reportedly died at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, Sami suffered multiple broken ribs and a cut on his head. The pickup truck driver also suffered a broken foot. Police continued to investigate the collision.

Sami Hayek might be held financially responsible for the injuries and death resulting from the two-vehicle car accident. The family members of the deceased victim may elect to file a wrongful death claim against the driver, while the injured victims also might choose to file personal injury claims against him. They can seek the reimbursement of monetary damages caused by the crash, such as medical costs, funeral expenses or even the loss of support. Not maintaining one’s lane may be deemed negligent, and proof of this could be used to try to establish his financial liability in civil court in California.
